I didn’t take my first ride on a Harley Davidson motorcycle until the year I turned 50. I admit I was one of those people who thought Harley riders were a bunch of rough, tough, trouble making people who all did drugs and were doomed to hell. Boy was I wrong!
It has been through riding on Harley’s that I have met some of the most giving, God-loving, and best friends till death kind of people. I love the sound of a Harley motorcycle and I can be caught often turning my head mid conversation with someone because I can hear the rumble coming from a distance and can’t wait to see it ride by. There is a brotherhood (and sisterhood) found with Harley riders. I have even caught on to the two fingered “wave” that is given whenever you are riding past another rider on a Harley.
I have seen some of the most beautiful scenery in Tennessee because of riding on the back of a Harley. Some of which you can see on this blog. When I need to lower my stress, clear my mind, and enjoy the outdoors I will often ask my man if we can go for some “wind therapy.” I often pray while riding on the back, not only for our safety but for the safety of all riders. Which leads me to a little sermon I need to share.
If you are not a Harley rider (or any kind of motorcycle rider for that matter) please understand that the majority of riders are very careful and considerate on the road. It has been my experience that it is the automobiles and truck drivers that have caused near misses and unfortunately killed many friends and family on motorcycles. It only takes a brief second for the worst thing to happen. It also only takes a second for a motorist to look twice and to give space and time for a motorcycle to ride past before you pull out. This saves lives!
I am so grateful that I have been given the opportunity to ride a motorcycle and even learn to ride one myself. I pray that we all are safe and are given the rest of our lives to ride without incident and to enjoy the beautiful country we live in. Who knows? Maybe God even has HOG rallies in heaven for those of us that like to ride!
